Amelia & Sam's Funtabulous Wedding
Amelia and Sam's wedding at Thief Hall in Northallerton is one we still talk about. Full of music, dancing and fireworks, it's one of the liveliest weddings we've had the pleasure of photographing in North Yorkshire.
The day
Coverage started with Amelia's preparations at Thief Hall in the morning, before the ceremony at nearby St Andrew's Church. St Andrew's keeps a lovely local tradition alive: the village children tie up the church lychgate after the service and won't release the newlyweds until they hand over some money — a genuinely fun moment to photograph.
Highlights from the day
After the church, everyone headed back to Thief Hall for the reception, which built steadily through the afternoon into dancing and, as evening fell, a fireworks display over the venue's grounds. It's the kind of finish that makes for genuinely dramatic photographs against the North Yorkshire countryside.
Our approach
A day with this much going on — the lychgate tradition, live music, fireworks — needs a photographer who can keep up without getting in the way. We stayed unobtrusive throughout, moving between moments as they happened rather than staging anything, which is exactly how a day like this should be captured.
