A Wonderful Rustic Wedding at Holdsworth House, Halifax

Holdsworth House in Halifax was the backdrop for a rustic wedding built around wood, candlelight and wildflowers. The historic building, with its gardens and cosy interiors, gave the whole day a warm, unhurried feel.

The venue

Holdsworth House sits just outside Halifax, West Yorkshire, and combines a genuinely old building — candlelit rooms, exposed wood — with grounds that work equally well for photographs. The courtyard in particular gave us a natural backdrop for portraits, with none of the staging a more modern venue sometimes needs.

Highlights from the day

The couple leaned into a rustic theme throughout — wooden décor, wildflower bouquets, fairy lights strung through the reception space. The ceremony was intimate, and the reception that followed had the kind of easy, laughter-filled energy that rustic weddings do particularly well.

As the evening wore on, live acoustic music and the barn-style touches in the reception room kept things relaxed rather than formal — guests were up and dancing without any sense of a set-piece evening reception.

Our approach

A day built around wildflowers and candlelight doesn't need much from us beyond staying out of the way. We worked quietly through the ceremony and reception, letting the courtyard and the evening light do most of the work, and stepping in only for the portraits.
