Healds Hall Hotel in Liversedge, West Yorkshire, is a Grade II listed Georgian mansion dating from 1764, with 250 years of history behind its gardens and grounds. On a sunny afternoon, it's one of the more striking venues we cover in the area.

The venue

Healds Hall has been in the same family since 1979, and that long ownership shows in how well the building and gardens are kept. Weddings here are exclusive use — no other events run alongside yours — so the grounds and building are yours for the whole day. It's licensed for civil ceremonies, and the mature gardens surrounding the Georgian façade give plenty of natural backdrops without needing to leave the grounds.

The gardens at Healds Hall come into their own on a bright day — the classical Georgian architecture holds its own against soft, direct light, and the grounds give enough space to move between formal portraits and more relaxed group shots without repeating the same backdrop twice.

Our approach

A venue with this much period detail can carry a lot of the photograph on its own. We kept our approach simple — natural light, minimal direction, letting the Georgian architecture and gardens frame the couple rather than competing with them.
