Beautiful wedding photography at Saltmarshe Hall
What can we say that hasn't already been said about Saltmarshe Hall? It's one of the most impressive wedding venues we cover — the attention to detail from the staff is exceptional, and for a wedding photographer it's close to a dream brief. Extensive outdoor space, an ornamental pond and a walled garden mean the photos hold up whatever the season.
The venue
From 1067 right up until the 1970s, the Saltmarshe Estate stayed in the same family. Kate and Roland Whyte moved to Saltmarshe in 2012 and are only the third family in 900 years to own the Hall. They've restored the Georgian Grade II listed building with a mix of traditional character and contemporary style, set across 17 acres of parkland near Howden, East Yorkshire. For photography, that scale is a gift — long lawns, mature trees and formal gardens all within a short walk of the house.
Highlights from the day

The walled garden gave us some of our favourite portraits of the day, and the ornamental pond made for a quiet, reflective spot away from the main celebrations. Inside, the Georgian rooms carry enough natural light and period detail that formal shots never feel staged.
Our approach
At a venue with this much going on, it would be easy to over-direct the day chasing every good angle. We didn't. Our approach at Saltmarshe Hall was the same as it is everywhere — stay relaxed, stay out of the way, and let the estate's own character come through in the background rather than posing around it.
